MtLawleyShire’s Kitchen Garden dragons

Kitchen Garden dragons – yes they are a thing, but first, the results of my PhD thesis are in and I got a first πŸ™‚

No revisions, unqualified acceptance!!

Once admin is sorted, I will be a Doctor of Philosophy πŸ˜€

I am very happy.

And I have also been very busy drawing – unicorns:

‘Cloud’ – white pencil & chinograph on black card

& dragons – Kitchen Garden dragons to be precise:

The Memory Dragon with his plants – poppy, rosemary & rue (the herb of grace).

Coloured pencil on black paper

The Tranquility Dragon with his plants – st john’s wort, valerian (pink & white) and heartsease (pansies & violas).Β  Though he is not feeling too tranquil at the moment as there is a cat on his tail not letting him arise πŸ™‚

Coloured pencil on black paper

The Rose Dragon – here with dog roses grown for their rosehips, along with their companion plants, geranium, marigold and mint.

Coloured pencil on black paper

And this panel, unfinished, with 4 kitchen garden dragons – lavender (along with nasturtiums), Borage, Chili and Basil (thai and sweet).Β  There are also pollinators – native australian bees and european honeybees, a caterpillar, ladybirds (on the chilli), cabbage moth and their destructive little caterpillars, and – strangely – a woodmouse.

Coloured pencil on black foamcore.

The flowers and plants in each are botanically correct and it’s a lot of work, but also very enjoyable.Β  Fattee Cattee doesn’t really enjoy me being so involved though and has managed to destroy one so I had to restart – and even on that one she inflicted (barely visible) damage.

So this is what I have been doing over the last few weeks.Β  I have been taking other photos, but more of those in posts to come, sunsets on teh beach, sculptures by the sea, flowers and the moon (though in Perth, the sky was clouded for the entire eclipse dammit).

So, see you soon πŸ™‚

What huge changes, Keira. Doctor of Philosophy. Fab. What is your area? Also , I am loving your dragons! Nice balance, there. We missed the eclipse here, too. Drat.

    • Thanks – & yes. Big changes!! The PhD was in creative writing (the novel’s already had one rejection) & a critical essay where I attempted to explore the concept of the grotesque sublime. Not sure how successful I was, but none of the markers ripped the essay to pieces, so maybe… & I’m glad you like the dragons. One of them and the unicorn won me 2nd prize in a art show so I’mkinda chuffed. And I sold 2 of them. And just thought of another dragon or 10 πŸ˜€

Congratulations on the Ph.D. (Does that mean that we can call you a phud?).

Dear Doctor(pending), Can you fill prescriptions or just theorise on the nature of pain itself? Not that I even pop panadols, of course. But there must be some financial angle you can work to exploit said qualification. Maybe you can endorse dodgy advertising campaigns by wearing a lab coat and looking away from camera? Anyway, cant wait to see the business cards: Doctor M, sunsets, philosophy and kitchen dragons. Anyway, Easter has been its usual drag. Fortunately football is back so I shall be shouting at a screen tonight and recovering from beer fever in the morning. Then its sleepover Tuesday followed by Spongebob Wednesday. Thursday maybe free. I’ll let you know. Congrats 😀 again on your new name. You sound like a tv show.

    • cheeky πŸ™‚ & it’s kitchen *garden* dragons. We don’t want dragons, no matter how small and pretty, in the kitchen! Have fun with the footy. I shall be watching Broadchurch & fortitude & then probably going t bed. No convention for me today – worst flare-up of the arthritis in years. & happy Easter. Check your email πŸ™‚
